Vintage 1940s US Navy gunners smock - wet weather parka - WW2 USN - naval deck jacket - military anorak - 50” chest

A US military cotton anti-gas gunner’s smock, dating from the WW2-era. Noted flaws - this item would originally have been white and has been over dyed green at some point, uneven colour fading throughout, faded band across the centre back, stress points at the pocket seams and where the ties are attached are fragile and will not withstand anything other than gentle handling - the main seams appear to be ok for strength, but please bear in mind that this item has been in storage for several decades and may not hold up to rigorous daily use, machine repair at the right hand pocket, the tie at the left side of the hood is only just hanging on, the tie at the left cuff has come away and re-tied to the loop, the fabric feels as though it had been coated with some sort of waterproofing, which has left a slightly rubberey feeling and a smell simliar to coal! I have laundered it - please see photos. Original military item, freshly laundered, cotton fabric, drawstring hood and hem with what appears to be the original laces, non-removable hood with ties at each side for tightening around a helmet in the event of a gas attack, two rounded base patch pockets, suitable for everyone and wearable with care.

Actual colour is more like the photos taken outside, although these appear brighter than in life.
