Vintage 1930s Royal Yacht Squadron overcoat - Naval bridge coat - 42" chest

A scarce midnight blue felted wool Royal Yacht Squadron overcoat dating from the 1930s. Noted flaws - some stitching at the upper right sleeve, some surface damage at the upper right shoulder area, the lower centre front beneath the overlap and back left shoulder/collar area - please see photos. Excellent condition otherwise, lined in the shoulders and sleeves, interior is in excellent condition, double breasted, full set of matching RYS crested buttons, all stamped as made by JR Gaunt and Son Ltd, London (the wording on the reverse of the buttons help to date the coat), lovely action back, attached belt and vent detailing at the back, thick, supple wool, two hand pockets, excellent quality, no visible stamps or labels, suitable for everyone. Weighs just under 3kg.

The Royal Yacht Squadron is an exclusive British yacht club founded in 1815 and based on the Isle of Wight. Members are permitted to wear the white ensign of the Royal Navy and the Antarctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott was a previous member. These overcoats are rarely found on the open market and were traditionally commissioned by bespoke tailors or outfitters restricted for members only.
