A rich brown goatskin leather jacket by California Sportswear, dating from the early 1940s. Noted flaws - dye transfer to the lining under the armpits, some marking around the main zip, collar fold and pocket entries, some wear and damage to the label, there may have been some sort of side adjuster or elasticity at the sides, which appears to have been removed, small nick at the back of the right cuff, verdigris to the zippers - please see photos. Generally in excellent condition for its age, lined in iridescent gold satin, supple goatskin leather, slightly off-centre sunburst Talon zipper which can be dated to April 1941, button-over collar, two hand pockets, slanted chest pocket, zippered cuffs, lovely rich tone and grain to the leather, stitched underarm holes, stitched down epaulettes, commonly known as a ‘bootlegger’ jacket, thanks to recent reproductions, it has early aviation and motorcycle references.
