Vintage WW2 Tropal coat - LRDG British army - 1940s military workwear jacket - canvas and sheepskin - 49” chest - shawl collar

A khaki brown cotton canvas British army Tropal coat, dating from the early 1940s. Noted flaws - uneven faded colour throughout, various ingrained marks throughout, the original clasps are all rusted (they all open and close, however), one clasp has lost its ‘snap’ pressure on closing, missing the original contract tag, surface damage throughout the wool serge collar, the upper portion of the sheepskin lining is in a dried out, damaged state (the lower half is much more stable, but it might benefit from being removed if you’re planning on wearing it (I’ll leave this for the new owner to decide though), the plasticised inter-lining is crackly - please see photos.
Originally made during the early WW2 period for the planned landings in Norway, the coats were later redistributed to troops including the Long Range Desert Group stationed in North Africa to keep the cold desert nighttime temperatures at bay. Earlier versions have sheepskin linings and metal clasps (as seen here) and later versions were lined in kapok with wooden toggle buttons.
Cotton canvas outer is generally in good condition for its age and original use, war office stamp inside, large wool serge collar and lower inner lining, storm flap under the collar, inner storm cuffs, metal clasps are all solid in the fabric, hang loop in the collar, two hand pockets with both pocket bags intact, all seams are solid, wind flap under the placket with hand written number (this does not appear to correspond with a service number), perfect as a research or restoration piece, weighs a little over 5kg.
